The National Regulatory Authority mandated to regulate food, drugs and its supplements Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has cautioned the public about the patronage of unlicensed COVID-19 vaccines.
This was after some unscrupulous members of the business community are reported to be peddling information on the sale of COVID-19 vaccines to several hospitals and other health facilities. The information is ostensibly to inform the general public the availability of these vaccines from well known pharmaceutical brands indicating their price ranges.
The Food and Drugs Authority has cautioned against the patronage of such vaccines since it has not yet been approved in Ghana.
The authority assured the general public that it is committed in protecting the health and safety of Ghanaians and further noted that culprits of illegal drug peddling violates section 129 of Act 851 of the Public Health Act of 2012 and its punishable by either a fine of up to ₵180,000 or a term of imprisonment up to 25 years or both.
