Real Madrid on Wednesday confirmed that their captain Sergio Ramos will be leaving the club with his contract expiring in June. It will bring an end to a 16-year stint with the La Liga giants.

Reports in Spain suggested that Sergio Ramos was in tasks with Real Madrid over contract extension and the Spanish giants were willing to offer him an extension only if he agreed to a pay cut. However, the 35-year-old is on his way out, putting a full stop to a decorated career.

"Real Madrid C. F. announces that tomorrow, Thursday 17 June, at 12:30 p.m., an institutional act of tribute and farewell to our captain Sergio Ramos will be held, which will be attended by our president Florentino Pérez," a statement from Real Madrid read.
